Autumn Baking

Maple Scone Recipe

I love baking especially during the colder months, It feels so cosy! I first had Maple Scones when I was in Canada visiting family and I couldn't stop thinking about them when I got back to England so I decided to improvise my own recipe. Hope you enjoy!

*Preheat oven to 220C*

Step 1 - Pour Flour into a large bowl and mix with the Salt and Baking Powder

Step 2 - Mix in the Butter by crumbling it into the Flour with your fingers until it looks like bread crumbs

Step 3 - Gently stir in the Sugar

Step 4 - Heat Milk in the microwave for about 20seconds until slightly warm

Step 5 - Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in the Milk and Maple Syrup and combine quickly

Step 6 - The dough may seem a little wet but dust some Flour on the work surface and tip the dough out, as you gather the dough into a ball it should take in some of the Flour

Step 7 - Flatten the dough until it's about 4-5cm deep and take a 5cm cutter to cut out your Scones, you should get about 9 Scones, place them on a baking tray prepared with grease proof paper

Step 8 - Whisk your egg and glaze the Scones

Step 9 - Place your scones in the oven for about 10-15mins until golden brown

Step 10 - Set them aside to cool

Step 11 - Place icing sugar into a bowl add around a tablespoon of maple syrup and slowly add water while mixing until you get quite a thick consistency but still able to pour (slightly less thick than maple syrup)

Step 12 - Once scones are cool drizzle with the Maple Syrup glaze (make sure you do this over grease proof paper as it can get a bit messy)

Step 13 - Enjoy!
